On Friday November 26, twelve start-ups gathered against the historical backdrop of Palazzo del Bo in Padova, to pitch to an audience of financial and corporate investors in the sixth edition of the Intesa Sanpaolo Start-up Initiative / Nanochallenge & Polymerchallenge 2010 (organized in collaboration with Veneto Nanotech and IMAST) .
The stakes were high: an international jury of experts was present to select the best project and award it with €300.000, courtesy of Veneto Nanotech . The prize went to Krystalia, a joint Italian-Indian team who developed a nanocoating which improves the performance and resistance of diamond dust for industrial uses, making it a desirable alternative to the widespread but more dangerous cobalt dust.
A round table on the subject "Rebooting Italy After the Crisis: Competence Innovation and New Opportunities" concluded the event. Speakers included Corrado Passera, CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo; Luigi Rossi Luciani, president of Veneto Nanotech; Luigi Nicolais, presidente of IMAST; and Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding.
